Magazine Assignment Unit 14

Magazine Assignment Evaluation

Before I began to create my magazine I put plenty of research into it; this varied from looking at other magazines and taking inspiration from them, also I began looking at the layout and designs for magazines in that genre so I could get a general scheme for my own magazine. Some of the magazines I exampled included: Total film magazine, Empire magazine and more. These magazines are some of the best in that genre; so taking inspiration from them is a good choice as they are highly rated by the public.
When I began the production of my magazine I created a pitch which is also present on the blog; the pitch included: magazine names, typography, fonts, and more. I would also state that I would follow the codes and conventions of a typical magazine in that genre.
I started by making a front cover for my magazine, it includes a masthead, main image and sub headings, I will include a picture of the front cover so it is visible in the blog. There were some complications as I had some previous attempts at making the front covers, some of these had minor details on that didn't make it to my standard. Also I took some secondary sources from google for my final magazine, this could cause some problems as I could get a copyright strike from using other images.
Secondly, I created a double page spread for my magazine. this included a fictional article of a new horror film that was coming out. The article included some behind the scenes facts, cast interviews and a brief synopsis to the movie. I had images of myself included on the page and some other images that I took off Google; again I could be served a copyright strike for using other images.

Unit 10 - Fictional Film Codes and Conventions

The two genres I have chosen for this assignment are Action and Horror. I feel that the choices I have made are suitable as they both feature iconography of the typical film in that genre. My chosen films for the genres are; Spectre and Kingsman: The Secret Service for the action movies; and the horror movies I have chosen are The Conjuring and IT, I believe that the choices I have made are necessary as they all feature typical codes and conventions of their genre. A theorist known as Steve Neale suggested that genre is made up of repetition and difference, as the viewers we can expect familiar sequences in the movies. Neale said that people are satisfied with repetition in film genres, the audience want to see similar codes and conventions within the movie to make it that recognizable genre. Neale’s idea of repetition can be seen in the two movies; Spectre and Kingsman: The Secret Service, the two both feature and share similarities with the action genre. Action films usually...

Music Reference Sheet

Film Editing

After i had shot all my film, i put it together in Adobe Premiere Pro, i chose Premiere Pro as it is an easy software to cut and edit footage. The footage i got could all be put into Premiere Pro and then i could drag it onto the movie timeline; after it has been dragged into the timeline i could cut little things out that were flaws in the footage and also clip shots together. Some shots i added music into my movie, the music i used was from youtube which i referenced in my music sheet. The music was simple to put in as i could cut to the part i wanted then drag it to the section of the movie it was being used. The audio was simple as i could turn up the decibels making it more louder and clear for the audience to hear. I could also clip different camera shots together making it into editing techniques; for example i could use two pieces of footage to make it look like a shot reverse shot.
