Stuart Hall, suggested that representation is the production of meaning through language ( a spoken or visual language) he implied that reality is mediated through the language.
Film language is as so, it is not necessarily the spoken language however the camera work but more the camera work and costume, we could watch a foreign film but understand the plot through the visuals and what the characters are doing.
Stuart Hall also stated he believed that media has no truth and people can manipulate reality and us as the audience get a mediated version of the truth, the hard truth is filtered through the media and then changed into a different perspective, the facts can be changed based on social/personal/political agendas.
Richard Dyer, implied that the role of stereotypes of how the complexity and diversity of a group or individual is reduced to a few limited characteristics, stereotypes exaggerate difference; this can create conflict between groups. The media may not create stereotypes; however they do reinforce them. Stereotyping is a way of imposing order on diversity by oversimplifying traits, stereotypes are a quick way of gathering information about a certain character. Seeing certain assumptions may help construct audience perception of the world. Identities can be constructed and can be communicated through stereotypes.
